here are a variety of faces in the stable of over 250 caddies at Sand Valley—some seemingly too young to remember the dominant years of Tiger, and some seemingly old enough to remember those of Hogan. But one of those faces happens to be some- thing of a local legend in the area of Wisconsin Rapids, and it has nothing to do with golf. Gary Weisenbeck has caddied at Sand Valley since Sand Valley first opened for preview play in 2016, but it's his work off the course that makes headlines. Weisenbeck has been the coach of the Assumption High School boys' basketball team for the past 24 years. Earlier this year, he made his- tory in picking up his 300th win as coach en route to a 20 and 6 season that also earned him coach of the year honors. Despite his significant involvement in local basketball, Weisenbeck says that golf has always been one of the biggest parts of his life. "I've played since I was probably in the fifth grade," said Weisenbeck. "I shagged balls for a local barber who then gave me some clubs. I continued to play through my teenage years and then for a couple years in college." >> T —gary and eight members of the assumption basketball team caddied at sand valley
